Sex Educator Interview Questions

Name: Ducky DooLittle www.duckydoolittle.com

Which sex work field are you in/were you in? For how long have you been in this field?

I have been a sex worker for 17 years. I started out in 42nd Street as a peepshow girl. Like many long time sex workers I have transitioned through
many different kinds of sex work just to keep from getting burned out and to satisfy my curiosities. I have also been a stripper, dominatrix, nudie
magazine model, fetish model, burlesque star, cam girl, sex toy sales person, sex journalist and now a sex educator and author.

What is your preferred job title?

Sexual Field Scientist

How did you decide which type of sex work was right for you?

It had always been about finding the right mix of financial rewards with my extreme sexual curiosity. Money was my first concern. I was orphaned when I
was 13 years old. By 18 I had already experienced homelessness. When my minimum wage job at Kinko’s could not cover my rent and bills (even when I
worked 17 hours a day) I knew I had to find another way. I refused to be homeless again. I answered an ad in the Village Voice and was hired. When I
started working on 42nd Street I was very sexually naive. I had no idea of what I was getting into, how to look or act sexy or even why customers would
pay money for peepshow encounters. At first I was very nervous. But with time I found that when the shade would go up in my peepshow booth I would
find so much excitement in learning about the person on the other side of the glass. I made money and learned a lot.How did you find your job?

My first job I found through an ad in the Village Voice. From there I found jobs through friends and acquaintances at work, or by a manager or magazine
editor seeing me dance. Being a sex educator has been a natural progression.

Briefly describe your working environment

Today I work from home when I am not teaching at feminist sex toy shops, universities, and community centers.

How do most clients find you and/or book an appointment with you?

Most of my work comes to me. I have a good reputation. Other people find me on my website. www.duckydoolittle.com I was online early (1996) consequently I have a great online following.

Tell us a bit about what your job involves.

Most recently I wrote a book. (Sex with the Lights On - Avalon 2006) Finishing this book was harder than all the 8-hour nights, on tabletops, in 4-inch heels I ever worked. Writing is isolating and requires so much focus. But finishing it and seeing it in print is well worth it! Now I am booking, promoting and getting ready to perform a 36 city tour.

What is an 'average' appointment/session/call for you?

This question does not exactly apply to my work as a sex educator. Most frequently I am teaching sexuality workshops.

What do you like most about your job?

I love it because it gives me a chance to share what I have learned. There is nothing more satisfying that teaching women how to tap into and develop
what is sexy within them. It’s not unlike what some of the women in the peepshow dressing room taught me, except these women get to learn it without
the performance and financial anxiety!

What do you like least?

Because I work for myself I have to be incredibly disciplined. In order to get it all done I have to work 18-hour days, 6 days a week.

What would you like people to know about your work?

My work as a sex educator is about being really authentic. I share a lot of personal stories about how I have learned things the hard way, my insecurities, and my achievements. The more real and honest I am, the more success I have and the more people want to hear what I have to say. I have found that working in other realms of the sex industry required me to disconnect from myself, act sexy (turning it on and off) and be the fantasy of my customers. At a certain point I decided to reconnect with myself, be sexy on my own terms and be my own damn fantasy. The more honest I am, the more success I have as a writer and performer. I loved being a sex symbol but I feel like a more powerful sex symbol when I found a way to capitalize on my brain with the same ingenuity I used to capitalize on my body. It’s a great way to stay in the field I love as I age gracefully.

If you could go back in time, and tell yourself one thing just as you were getting started in sex work, what would it be?

Your instincts will never betray you.
